Voice Over Intro: Artificial Intelligence has brought incredible advances in voice technology. From accessibility tools to creative narration, the benefits are hard to ignore. But with these opportunities also come new dangers, like scams and impersonation. To understand both sides of the issue, I spoke with Justin Holgate, who shared their perspective on how AI voices are shaping the way we communicate.
Interviewer: Could you start by telling us alittle bit about your experience with Voice AI technology?
Interviwee: Of course. I’ve been working with AI voice tools for about 3 years, mainly in accessibility applications and content creation. I’ve seen first hand how it can save time, provide narration for educational materials, and help people with speech impairments communicate more easily.
Interviewer: That sounds impressive. What would you say the biggest benefits for everyday users are?
Interviewee: AI voices make high quality audio accessible without expensive equipemtn or professional studios. They allow creators to produce audiobooks, podcasts, and marketing content quickly. They also can make technology more inclusive. For example someone who can’t speak can use a AI-generated voice to speak
Interviewer: Intersting. But there’s been a lot of talk about scams and fraud involving voice AI. Can you explain how that happens?
interviewee: Yes and I must admit this is a growing concern. Scammers can clone someones voice and impersonate them on calls, videos, or voice messages. They often try to trick people into sending money or sharing personal information. Its dubbed voice deepfaking and its becoming more common as the technology improves.
Interviewer: That’s alamring. Are there ways to protect against these scams?
interviwee: Absolutely. Always verify the identity of someone asking for sensitive information. Be cautious with unsolicited messages that sound unusual or urgent. Companies and developers are also creating tools to detect AI generated voices, but awareness is key.
Interviewer: And finally how do you see voice AI technology evolving over the next few years?
Interviewee: I think that we will see AI voices become even more realistic with a wider accessibility and even more creative applications. but with that comes a responsibility to regulate misuse and educate the public about potential scams. The benefits are huge, but we also need to be cautious about the risks.
Voice AI Insert (in the voice of MLK): A state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.
Interviewer: The audio recording you just heard was not actually MLK. ive included this to demonstrate the power of Voice AI and the potential positive and negative benefits it can pose.
Description:
The goal of my audio piece is to complement my print story by bringing the listener closer to the human side of the issue. My interview will serve as the central element, giving firsthand perspective and emotion that written words alone can’t fully capture. To frame the interview, I will record a short voice-over introduction that provides context and sets the tone. I will also include ambient sounds gathered on location to transport the listener into the environment of the story, creating a more immersive experience. For example, background noise such as city traffic, footsteps, or quiet room tones will help ground the listener in the space. The audio will appear as a standalone post titled Audio Soundscape on my WordPress site, with a brief written introduction guiding listeners.
